403b7—Mutual Funds: These plans are offered by investment management companies and brokerage firms. Participants may direct their contributions to various investment portfolios. Long-range returns are subject to the performance of the investment accounts chosen by the participant.
403b Plan—Variable Annuity: Several investment alternatives are combined within these plans. You may select one or more investment accounts managed by the carrier or other various investment management companies. Interest bearing accounts with principal guarantees are available, in addition to investment sub-accounts in which you assume the investment risk. This flexible combination allows you to allocate your contributions and account balances over a broad range of investments, if desired.
457b Plan—Deferred Compensation: The 457 tax deferred plan is similar to the 403b with the exceptions of the contribution limits and catch-up provisions. The 457 plan allows you to access funds at the time of separation of service. (Access to funds may be limited by the individual provider due to surrender penalties).
